A new business in Manitowoc opened by two women is what they call a labor of love.
The Woodlands Day Spa and Retreat opened its doors to friends, family, and members of The Chamber of Manitowoc County on Thursday to see what’s been done with the space on Buffalo Street.
Owners Angie Phillp and Micki Virnoche had collaborated on the project for two years after Angie said it was her dream to create the day spa.
Angie says she hopes anyone’s worries can melt away when they stop in because self-care is very important.
“Self-care is not just a pamper day,” she described. “It’s not just painting your nails and giggling with the girls. It is truly resetting and getting back to you. I feel you can truly heal from the inside if you take time to yourself and listen to your body and what it needs.”
Both say they poured a lot of time into The Woodlands Day Spa and Retreat, from the plants you’d see to all the amenities they provide.
They include a sauna, massages, and a steam room, among other things. Micki explains to Seehafernews.com that she thought she was going to retire, but after a dinner discussion, the spa-and-retreat idea was born.
“We’re both in agreement, there’s nothing in this town like this, and this town needed it,” she stated. “They clamored for it. And so we have had so much support from again the community, family, and friends who are like ‘yes, we need this!”
Angie admitted that she never would have thought opening a spa would be in her five-year plan.
She told us, “But now I walk in some days and set up and I’m like, this is mine. Wow! This is what I want to give.”
The Woodlands Day Spa and Retreat is open Monday through Saturday.
