What started as a controlled burn in Sheboygan County ended up requiring multiple fire departments to be extinguished.
The Waldo Fire Department was called to a residence on Blueberry Lane just after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday (May 12th) on a report of a possible structure fire.
Once on scene, fire crews observed a previously controlled burn of a demolished barn that had reignited and grew larger than intended.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within approximately 45 minutes of their arrival.
However, persistent hot spots and rekindling required an excavator to be called in to pull apart debris from the barn to ensure the flames were extinguished entirely.
Firefighters remained on scene for roughly four hours to prevent further flare-ups. No injuries were reported during the incident, no individuals were displaced, and no structures were damaged.
After the fire, the Waldo Fire Department extended its thanks to the Cascade Fire Department for responding to assist and to Woody’s Tree Trimming & Removal for providing the excavator used.
The department also closed by reminding residents to exhibit caution with controlled burns, especially during changing weather conditions.
