Students at an elementary school in Kiel got to do some hands-on work last week.
Zielanis Elementary School 4th graders enjoyed their annual Lumberjack Day last Friday (May 8th), as they have been studying lumberjacks as part of their Wisconsin History studies.
Not only were they taught about the importance of the lumber industry, but they also got to play with some tools that lumberjacks would have used.
For lunch, students enjoyed an authentic lumberjack-style breakfast made of stovelids (pancakes), sinkers (doughnuts), and murphy’s (potatoes) by parent volunteers.
Some of the 4th graders even dressed up like lumberjacks and got awoken by a Rattlesnake Ramminger, which is how they would have started their day back in the 1800s.
Zielanis students gave a special thanks to everyone who made lumberjack day possible, including the families who donated maple syrup for the breakfast.
