A Manitowoc man is heading to prison for assaulting law enforcement.
51-year-old Mario Mora was present for his sentencing hearing last week after being convicted of Resisting an Officer Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping earlier this year.
Judge Mark Rohrer ordered Mora to spend just over three years in prison, followed by three years on extended supervision.
The 51-year-old was arrested at the intersection of South 14th Street and Grand Avenue in Manitowoc in April of last year.
Manitowoc Police were called to the area on the report of a physical assault in progress inside a vehicle.
Once on the scene, authorities made contact with Mora, who became aggressive and combative with an officer in the middle of the street.
Following the assault on the officer, additional police units arrived on the scene and subdued Mora with a Taser before placing him under arrest.
Both the officer and the female victim assaulted by Mora in the vehicle were injured and required transport to a local hospital for further treatment.
Originally, the 51-year-old faced 10 charges, including two felonies; however, a plea deal had six of those charges dismissed and read into the record.
