A judge has ruled on the competency of a woman claiming she worships the “Saint of Death.”
49-year-old Blanca Perez Hernandez was back in Manitowoc County court Wednesday for a competency hearing.
Documents from CCAP say that Perez-Hernandez feels she is competent to proceed. Prosecutors feel that she isn’t and asked Dr. Kaylee Smith, a psychologist with the Wisconsin Forensic Unit, to testify.
Manitowoc County Assistant District Attorney Jordan Feest argued that the 49-year-old could become competent with medications and treatment.
But Manitowoc County Judge Jerilyn Dietz found Perez-Hernandez competent unless the state provides evidence.
She also ruled that Perez-Hernandez must continue getting treatment and prescribed medication.
The 49-year-old will return to court on July 28th for another competency hearing to see if her case will move forward.
She was arrested after Manitowoc Police were called to a disturbance.
Perez-Hernandez was seen taking license plates off of cars, and when she was confronted by the rightful owners, she allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife and slashed one of the owners and almost stabbed another.
Police say she claimed that the “Saint of Death” had gifted her all the cars in the area.
She faces two charges of 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety.
