A local high school took first place again in this year’s WPS Solar Olympics.
Valders High School took 1st place in the team competition for a fourth year in a row, defeating other schools like Green Bay West, Ashwaubenon, and Mishicot, which tied for 2nd.
Denmark and Wausau West were tied for 3rd.
In specific events, Valders won one gold in the solar advertising campaign and solar jeopardy, which ended in a tie between students Norianna Burton and Liam Grall.
Mishicot High School also won some events, including the solar T-shirt design contest and solar water heater competition.
Nearly 150 students from 13 area high schools took part in the solar energy showcase at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
Wisconsin Public Service began the Solar Olympics in 1997 as an interactive way for local high school students to show what they’ve learned about solar energy.
Schools that participate are in the SolarWise School program, which provides hands-on renewable energy lessons and support for high schools across northern Wisconsin.
