Future dredging at the City of Two Rivers harbor has taken the first step.
City Manager Kyle Kordell told the city council on Monday (May 4th) that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed a condition survey that showed their interior channel has worsened due to continued sediment buildup.
While dredging isn’t officially scheduled, the city remains cautiously optimistic it will happen in 2027.
Kordell noted that the Corp is preparing documents under the National Environmental Police Act, with early indications pointing to a project that could remove 30,000 cubic yards of material.
When the harbor was dredged in 2020, only 12,000 cubic yards of sediment were removed.
The city manager also noted that residents’ advocacy is making a difference.
Kordell asks anyone concerned about the dredging to reach out to U.S Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, as well as Sixth District Congressman Glenn Grothman.
The city is unable to pay for the equipment to dredge the harbor itself, which is why they are asking the federal government for help.
