A senior at Manitowoc Lincoln High School was one of only a couple of thousand students in the Country to be named a finalist for a highly prestigious scholarship.
Tor Seilheimer, who is a highly active member of the student body, was recently named a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Over 1.3 million students apply for the program, but only about 6,000 students are named finalists.
Tor tells SeehaferNews.com that the whole process has left him at a loss for words.
“It’s been crazy,” he said with a chuckle. “I would never have imagined it. It’s just amazing.”
Part of the reason he was selected as a finalist is the fact that he is involved in a wide variety of extracurricular activities.
“I’ve been doing a ton of music,” he explained. “I’m currently in three different band classes. I play five or six different instruments. I did FBLA this year, where I did a coding project and went to state with that. I’ve been taking calculus at U.W.G.B.”

As you may expect, Tor had plenty of colleges to choose from, but in the end, he decided to attend the same college his parents did, Lawrence University in Appleton.
“The biggest part is that it’s both a really good music school and a really good, just like general school for, like, science and math and everything else,” he explained.
Tor will be pursuing a degree in Music Performance of the Clarinet and will be studying science to some degree, but he remains undecided on which field to focus on.
Tor thanked his music teacher and clarinet teacher, Mrs. Woller, for all of her assistance throughout the years. Tor was honored alongside dozens of students as a part of Manitowoc Lincoln’s Student Recognition program yesterday.
The school recognized students involved in FCCLA, FBLA, the BFA Musical Theater Program, music, and athletics.
