Manitowoc County is one of 22 Wisconsin counties being assessed following flooding and high water levels last month.
Wisconsin Emergency Management says they’ve begun joint preliminary damage assessments (JPDAs), marking a critical step toward determining the extent of the damage and validating initial damage assessments conducted by counties.
The assessments will examine storm data and the impacts of tornadoes or flooding on public infrastructure. It could include debris removal costs, impacts to roads or bridges, public park repairs, and certain nonprofits.
Homeowners are not required to be present when Wisconsin Emergency Management staff are working.
Damage assessment teams will also be wearing photo identification and will not enter your home.
It’s also important to know that JPDA teams do not look at every home but use sampling methods to develop an accurate picture of overall impacts.
Residents who haven’t reported damage to their home because of the April storms should contact 211 or visit the 211 Wisconsin Damage Report website.
