Organizations in Sheboygan are reminding residents of the importance of chipping their pets.
May is recognized as National Chip Your Pet Month, and the Humane Society of Sheboygan County and the Sheboygan Police Department state that doing so could make the difference in bringing your pet home.
Officer Alison Meyer also notes, “Every year, 10 million pets are lost in the U.S. But microchipped pets are far more likely to be reunited with their families—dogs are 3x more likely, and cats over 20x more likely.”
Microchips serve as a permanent form of ID that cannot be removed and give owners the highest chance to reunite with a lost pet.
The Humane Society of Sheboygan County offers microchipping for $35 per pet, and appointments to do so can be scheduled by calling 920-458-2012.
For those with pets that have already been microchipped, Officer Meyer also urges pet owners to make sure that all contact information is up to date.
