The Wisconsin congressman who represents Manitowoc County in Washington is showing his support for a new bill on out-of-state pollution.
6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman joined his fellow Republican colleagues in discussing the Fair Air Standards Act in southeastern Wisconsin last week.
Rep. Grothman says the current Clean Air Act penalizes Wisconsin families and businesses for pollution not caused by the state.
The Republicans say the huge amounts of pollution come from cities like Chicago and are blown over Lake Michigan into Wisconsin.
That means stricter regulations, higher costs, and more emissions tests for drivers.
When he got the chance to speak, Rep. Grothman called the bill a home run and criticized the strict regulations.
“The current law pushed by wealth environmentalists forces the average guy or the below-average income guy to have to buy a new car,” he said. “How horrible! How callous these environmental extremists are.”
The Glenbeulah Republican says the Fair Air Standards Act brings some much-needed accountability back into the process and allows states to prove when air quality issues are driven by out-of-state emissions.
Congress.gov shows that the bill was introduced by Rep. Steil of Janesville, and no action has been taken yet.
