Animal rights groups have reached a deal to buy 1,500 beagles from a Wisconsin facility that’s been targeted by activists.
Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds breeds the dogs for medical research that critics say amounts to animal abuse.
Last month, protesters tried to break in to rescue the dogs but were stopped, leading to dozens of arrests after police used tear gas and rubber bullets.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy have announced they’re buying 1,500 dogs for an undisclosed sum.
The Dane County Humane Society says it is working to get the remaining 500 beagles.
