Just over a week after one Appleton resident died from injuries sustained in a drunk driving crash, her husband also succumbed to his injuries.
A GoFundMe page set up for the family of Margie and Alan Hopfensperger confirmed over the weekend that Alan passed away Saturday evening, three weeks after the crash.
Alan was behind the wheel when he and Margie were t-boned at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Meade Street, causing their vehicle to roll onto its roof.
The GoFundMe noted that Margie suffered several cardiac arrests before making it to the hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator while also suffering a broken leg, a broken finger, and a brain bleed.
Alan ended up with eight fractured ribs, a bruised shoulder, and a deflated lung.
Margie was pronounced dead on Friday, April 24th, just before 5:00 p.m., and Alan died on Saturday, May 2nd, at 4:15 p.m.

A 17-year-old male from Appleton was arrested on charges of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle, Homicide by Use of a Vehicle with Prohibited Alcohol Content, and Injury by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle Causing Great Bodily Harm, but those charges are now likely to change.
The teen’s name has not yet been released by the Appleton Police Department.
