An assembly representative in Wisconsin’s 3rd district is highlighting another bill signed into law.
Wisconsin Act 208 will modernize school bus safety standards by permitting additional side-mounted backup lamps, illuminated back and front signage, and upgraded LED strobe lights on top.
State Rep. Ron Tusler explains that the changes, “enhance visibility and safety for our children during daily routes across Wisconsin and modernize Wisconsin law to allow for new buses on Wisconsin roads.”
The idea for the bill came from New Holstein Bus Driver Tina Karls, who couldn’t see her back tires when backing up.
Previously, state law only allowed buses to have two backup lights.
Now, buses can have illuminating lights on the rear tires to help drivers back up and to see anyone behind them.
Rep. Tusler thanked Karls for being an engaged constituent, who said, “No one understands the problems created by bad laws better than the people who have to live with their consequences.”
