
The Manitowoc County Mariners opened up its regular season over the weekend in Rockford, Illinois.
The Mariners fell to the defending Northern Lights Football League champion Rock River Rampage by a score of 20- 0.
The Rampage jumped out to a 14-0 lead at halftime and never looked back in posting the 20-point victory.
Mariners quarterback R.J. Jeffrey completed 5 of 10 passes for 63 yards, with Miguel Alfaro catching two passes for 25 yards.
Defensively, linemen Brian Gottowski had a team-high five tackles and a forced fumble, while rookie linebacker Austin Shaw had three tackles and a recovered fumble.
The Mariners host the Central Wisconsin Wolves in their home opener Saturday afternoon at Ron Rubick Field with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
