Work has officially gotten underway for a major update in the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District.
The district held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (April 30th) at the high school and site of the new middle school.
This project is part of a referendum that was passed in November 2024 and will cost $39.6 million.
Through the referendum, the school district will build an addition onto the current high school, which will be home to the district’s new middle school.
The plan is then to move the elementary school students into the current middle school, while the current elementary school will be demolished.
The middle school addition will include new general education classrooms, locker rooms, commons, and a gymnasium with an 800-person capacity.
The addition will also include a new main office, a music room, and storage, on top of extensive renovations to numerous existing rooms and areas around the school.
At this time, the construction work is expected to be completed and recognized with a grand opening ceremony ahead of the 2027-2028 school year.
