Water rates could be going up for Manitowoc Public Utilities customers.
MPU has filed a water rate increase application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW), citing multiple factors.
The most notable is a decrease in industrial sales due to large customer process changes and closings.
There has also been an increase in operating and maintenance costs. MPU notes that customers won’t see a huge increase in their water bills.
An example was given that customers who use about 4,000 gallons of water a month will only see an average increase of about $3.82.
That does not include fire protection charges.
The public utility says its commission and leadership team are dedicated to maintaining competitive rates for customers, while remaining “financially healthy.”
A chart they provided in the Connection newsletter (which can be seen below) appears to show that their rates would be the lowest quartile among other public water utility groups in the state.
This is the first utility increase announced this year by Manitowoc Public Utilities.
