Three people were rescued on the Manitowoc River on Sunday evening (April 26th).
The Branch Fire Department was called to the area of the Whitewater Acres Subdivision in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids just before 6:00 p.m.
The three people were found on a island unharmed after their kayak had capsized in the river.
However, all three needed help getting back to shore.
Branch Fire Chief Josh Stradal explained that the fast moving water required careful consideration because it would be a complex rescue to get the kayakers off the island and back to safety.
Ropes and anchor points were used to help rescue everyone with the first person making it to shore about two hours after firefighters were called and the last person making it safely back just after 7:20 p.m.
Branch Fire and Rescue also activated a MABAS Alarm to bring in more departments due to the water conditions on the rivers.
They thanked several fire departments who came to assist including Brillion, City of Two Rivers, Manitowoc, Newton, Valders, and Whitelaw.
Also on hand to help was Two Creeks Area First Responders, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, and Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center.
