Manitowoc Public Utilities customers may have been victims of recent scam calls.
MPU tells SeehaferNews.com that they have been made aware of multiple phone scams happening throughout the community, including scammers posing as Energy Star officials and as MPU employees asking for gift cards.
The public utility re-explains that scammers regularly try to imitate utility companies and prey on the fear of power loss and disconnection to get what they want.
They can even appear to be calling from the utility’s customer service phone number.
If you’re not sure if you’ve been scammed, call MPU at 920-63-4600.
As a reminder, the utility group will not contact you on social media about your account or ask for gift cards as payment for utility service.
