A pursuit in Fond du Lac County led to the arrest of an 85-year-old man.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brett Hanschke says a deputy saw a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 41 with no taillights on Thursday (April 23rd) just before 10:45 p.m.
The vehicle was also weaving within its lane, crossing land dividers, and driving onto the shoulder.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Highway 151, but the driver continued southbound at normal highway speeds.
The 85-year-old man from Oshkosh would exit the I-41 at County Highway B and disregard a stop sign at the end of the off-ramp before cutting across a grassy median and traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lane of the highway.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to do a PIT maneuver to try to stop the man, but he got away from them and continued onto Highway 175 and County Highway B before hitting a traffic sign on the west shoulder.
The 85-year-old’s vehicle then entered a ditch and continued accelerating before hitting two trees, leaving it disabled.
The man exited the vehicle and was cooperative, but deputies noticed he looked confused and disoriented.
The Oshkosh man also said he was lost and attempting to return to the city.
The incident is believed to be related to a medical issue.
The driver suffered minor lacerations to the head as a result of the crash and was later released to a family member.
