Area anglers can earn some money by hooking a certain kind of fish.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding the public that their walleye tag reward study still continues in the Bay of Green Bay.
The DNR will be tagging up to 5,000 walleye with yellow tags and another 400 with the coveted red reward tag.
The red reward tags will read “REWARD: $100.”
Those who catch one of these red-tagged walleye will be able to verify their catch and receive $100.
In order to verify the catch, anglers do not have to harvest the fish, but will have to give the correct information present on the tag, such as tag number, tag color, species, length, location caught, and the date it was caught.
This study is being done by the DNR to better understand the walleye fishery and gain estimates of the fish species’ exploitation rates.
Any reports of tagged fish caught, both yellow and red-tagged walleye, will help guide walleye management throughout Green Bay and its tributaries.
Walleye were also tagged in Sturgeon Bay along with the Fox, Menominee, Oconto, and Peshtigo rivers.
