Fire danger remains at heightened levels across the state, including locally.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding residents in Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties that, despite recent rainfall, the fire danger is still high.
Joining these counties are Calumet, Winnebago, Brown, Kewaunee, Fond du Lac, and Door Counties, with high fire danger.
Meanwhile, all 62 other counties across Wisconsin are currently dealing with very high fire danger.
With this in mind, the DNR is urging residents to exhibit caution and to avoid burning any materials until conditions improve.
Aside from burning, things such as ashes from fireplaces, outdoor grills, smoking, chainsaws, and off-road vehicles also pose a serious risk as they can draw a spark, ignite a fire, and spread quickly.
This comes as the DNR responded to nearly 70 wildfires in the past week, including at least three yesterday (April 23rd).
When warning the state on the current fire conditions, the DNR stated, “Severe conditions continue across much of the state, and the threat of a large wildfire remains extremely high in Wisconsin. The DNR is at full staffing and preparedness across the state to respond to any incidents…Please avoid all burning until conditions improve.”
