The City of Manitowoc is celebrating trees again this year.
Manitowoc’s Forestry Division will again host their annual Arbor Day Celebration tomorrow (April 24th) at 1:15 p.m. at Madison Elementary School on N. 4th Street.
The event will feature Mayor Justin Nickels reading an Arbor Day Proclamation, a reading of the Dr. Seuss classic The Lorax, and a question-and-answer session with 4th-grade students.
A ceremonial tree planting will then take place at Lighthouse Park on Maritime Drive, with saplings donated by the Izaak Walton League.
Grade school students attending will also get a free tree seedling.
The Wisconsin DNR will also be on hand to present the City of Manitowoc with its 2025 Tree City USA award.
Arbor Day was started in Nebraska back in the 1800’s as a way to address the lack they had at the time.
