The City of Sheboygan is set for an early Arbor Day celebration.
While today (April 22nd) is Earth Day, the City will be holding its celebration of trees at Charles Voigt Park at 3500 North 8th Street, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
During the event, the Department of Public Works, along with students from Sheboygan North High School, will be planting 18 trees throughout the park.
Mayor Ryan Sorenson will also be on hand to discuss all the benefits trees offer to a community and explain how Sheboygan is committed to maintaining a diverse urban forest.
This dedication dates back decades, having been designated as a Tree City USA for 48 years and a Tree City of the World for six years by the Arbor Day Foundation.
Both of those numbers mark the longest such designation status for any city in all of Wisconsin.
Additionally, City Forester Tim Bull will also give a demonstration on proper tree planting techniques to those in attendance as well.
The Arbor Day celebration is open to the public, and anyone interested in joining in and learning more about the benefits and roles trees play in Sheboygan is encouraged to attend.
