Senator Andre Jacque will have competition for his seat in Madison.
Jacob VandenPlas of Sturgeon Bay has officially announced his candidacy for the District 1 seat in the Senate and will be running as a Republican.
VandenPlas is a combat veteran, a farmer, and the former leader of a nonprofit organization aimed at helping veterans.
He tells SeehaferNews.com that the key reasons he wanted to run were rising costs and challenges facing family farms, veteran mental health, and government outreach.
He specifically noted, “Families are feeling squeezed, small businesses are struggling, veterans are taking their lives at a rate of 40-44 a day, and farmers are being left behind. We need leadership that puts Wisconsin first, not bureaucracy and not politics as usual.”
He also said that he is not a career politician, but rather “someone who has lived the challenges people here are facing, and I’m ready to fight for them.”
VandenPlas also ran in 2022 as a Libertarian against Mike Gallagher to represent District 8 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
