An Appleton medical clinic will pay the U.S. Government to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act.
Apple Medical Clinic and Dr. Mike Johnson will pay more than $382,300 to resolve allegations of submitting false claims to Medicaid for electrical muscle stimulation treatment, vitamin injections, and other related services that were not deemed medically reasonable or necessary.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin says the treatments and the way they were administered were not medically necessary and not covered by Medicaid.
However, the office says Johnson advertised the treatments as eligible for Medicaid coverage and billing.
The settlement amount consists of a $175,000 payment and the U.S. retention of $207,362.95 held by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
