While the Sheboygan County Warming Shelter has closed for the season, there’s something different about this year.
In a post on its Facebook page, the shelter says Volunteers Liz, Lyric, Lorrie, Wendy, Amber, and others will still be at the shelter helping guests and raising funds to continue the work.
This year, the Sheboygan County Warming Shelter will also host “The Landing”, a time where guests can store their personal items this summer.
This comes after volunteers listened to guests and heard again and again how difficult it is to carry their belongings all day.
The Landing will be accessible during the Community Café hours from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The Warming Shelter continues to say that the transition is hard on staff and volunteers and, “over the season, real relationships are built – trust is earned, stories are shared, and connections are formed. Closing the Warming Center, even temporarily, is not easy for those who have shown up day after day to care for our guests.”
The Sheboygan County Warming Shelter also wants to continue working to possibly be open year-round.
They finished by thanking those who stand with them and for helping care for those who needed help this year.
