
A fire in Sheboygan was extinguished thanks to a sprinkler system.
The Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center was alerted to the activation of a sprinkler system at a business in the 2700 block of North 15th Street just before 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
The Sheboygan Fire Department was on the scene within three minutes of the alert and observed a significant amount of smoke coming from the building’s third floor.
Upon entry to the building, fire crews discovered a small fire on the third floor that was extinguished by the sprinkler system.
Crews stayed on hand to ventilate the area and would confirm that the fire did not spread.
During this assessment, firefighters located stored chemicals that had been impacted by the blaze; however, no immediate hazards were identified.
Prior to the arrival of Sheboygan firefighters, all employees of the business were able to escape the structure unharmed.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and under investigation, while a dollar loss estimate is unavailable.
In total, 10 SFD units responded to the scene.
In their incident announcement, the Sheboygan Fire Department stressed the importance of a sprinkler system and urged business and apartment owners to ensure that they are working and properly maintained, as they can save lives and possessions.
