Flooding has closed two heavily trafficked parks in the Sheboygan area.
The City of Sheboygan Department of Public Works closed Evergreen Park on Calumet Drive yesterday (April 15th) after extensive rainfall throughout the area.
This rainfall and the rising water levels of the Pigeon River caused severe flooding, prompting city officials to close Evergreen out of concern for park goers’ safety.
Anyone found to be in the park during this closure will be asked to leave and may be cited.
Likewise, the Sheboygan Falls Police Department has closed River Park along the Sheboygan River.
At this time, the extremely high levels of the Sheboygan River have left the park completely underwater, with water encroaching onto nearby Monroe Street.
With more rain in the forecast over the next number of days, it is unclear when either Evergreen Park or River Park will be reopened to the public.
Updates on the status of the parks can be found on the Sheboygan DPW Facebook page and the Sheboygan Falls Police Department Facebook page.
