An infant was accidentally shot by their sibling in Fond du Lac County.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence at 10:30 Friday morning after learning a child had been shot.
Deputies and medical personnel quickly responded, but the 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the investigation is ongoing, the preliminary investigation indicates that three young children were in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence, and were left alone while their parents went inside to grab a forgotten item.
During that short period, a 4-year-old in the vehicle located an unsecured firearm and accidentally pulled the trigger.
The round struck the 2-year-old, but no one else was injured.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office extended its “deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim” and reminded residents to “safely store firearms out of the reach of children at all times.”
