Two bills authored by a Sheboygan County representative have become law.
Wisconsin Act 216 and Wisconsin Act 217, which were introduced by 27th District Representative Lindee Brill, help the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s (DOJ) internet crimes against children law enforcement.
$400,000 per year will be appropriated to the group in the 2025-2027 state budget. Four new positions for internet crimes against children will also be created at the DOJ.
Two of the positions will be for criminal analysts, one for an outreach specialist, and one for an Internet Crimes Against Children digital evidence examiner.
Rep. Brill calls the bills critical steps in the right direction, but says there is still more work to be done.
She also thanks those working on internet crimes against children, saying, “I am passionate about the need to defend future generations and protect the innocent of the State of Wisconsin. Thanks to the heroes of the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, who tirelessly carry the burden of this grueling but vital work to bring the perpetrators of these vile crimes to justice and protect our kids.”
