Tourism is majorly impacting the City of Two Rivers.
During Monday’s city council meeting, Room Tax Commission Chairman Curt Andrews gave a presentation about the impact of tourism on the local economy.
He shared a survey given to businesses in the city, with 49 respondents.
Every respondent believed that tourism contributes to the area’s overall economic health, and about 62% said that without tourism-related revenue, their business would not stay open.
He then talked about the five hotels and 34 short-term rentals in the city that help attract visitors to Two Rivers.
“Not only do they provide the room tax I’m going to be talking about in detail, but over $250,000 in property tax,” he explained. “And the guests who are visiting, they provide money for buying food, buying gas, eating at restaurants, and shopping at our shops.”
Andrews then explains that 30% of the city’s Room Tax goes back into the city’s general fund. Additional funding goes back to tourism projects.
He noted, “Whether it be the warning system we have at the beach, or helping with playground equipment, or helping with events that will drive overnight stays here.”
From 2022 to 2025, Two Rivers has collected over $1.2 million in room tax.
While Andrews is proud of the numbers, he would still like to see more residents stay in Two Rivers and more housing for the community.
He then endorsed being a brand ambassador for the Cool City to support their cause.
