The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has retracted an alert sent out recently regarding products sold nationwide, including in Wisconsin.
On April 1st, the FSIS issued a public health alert regarding Great Value-branded dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets sold at Walmart due to the possible contamination of lead.
However, that alert has since been rescinded by the FSIS after determining the products in fact do not contain elevated levels of lead.
The alert was originally issued after routine product sampling revealed elevated lead levels, but following continued testing, it was learned that these heightened levels actually were detected due to “sporadic lead contamination at the laboratory during analysis, not contamination of the product itself…All follow‑up testing, including testing of the original lot, found no elevated levels of lead in the product.”
Due to these results, the FSIS has concluded that the Great Value dino nuggets do not pose a public health concern.
Product labels and further information regarding the public health alert retraction can be found online by visiting fsis.usda.gov.
