The Republican Party of Wisconsin is acting against the City of Green Bay Clerk’s Office.
FOX11 reports that the group has filed a complaint after 152 voters were sent two ballots for today’s April 7th election.
Last week, City Clerk Celestine Jefferys said they were sent out around the same time as Blizzard Elsa, and because of that, City Hall was closed for an extra day, meaning they had to work quickly to get ballots sent out on time.
Mailing labels were printed twice, and ballots were sent out before anyone noticed the mistake. In a complaint to the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC), the Republican Party says Green Bay did not respond to its inquiry about how the error occurred and how it would prevent further ballot duplication.
They also say in a complaint that Jefferys “breached her duty to administer elections and ensure that all procedures comply with applicable law.”
They asked the WEC to conduct an investigation and for the city to provide a detailed written plan for tracking and handling any duplicate ballots.
Jefferys previously ensured votes are not counted twice by doing a daily audit of returned ballots, followed by a ballot file audit.
