A bill authored by State Representative Shae Sortwell has become law.
Assembly Bill 86, which is now Wisconsin Act 187, makes it so that a person convicted of trafficking a child would spend life in prison if at least three victims were children at the time the crime was committed.
It changes the crime from a Class C felony to a Class A felony, making life imprisonment possible. The new law also makes the criminal ineligible for release on extended supervision.
The bill previously passed the state’s Committee on Judiciary 4-0 and the Senate Committee on Senate Organization 3 to 2.
