The Green Bay man accused of killing a child will have to wait to see if his bond will be modified.
22-year-old James Vanderleest was in court on Monday (April 6th) as he faces charges of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, two counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, and four counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
WBAY reports that the defense team filed a motion to amend his bond to allow him to speak with his father, David Vanderleest, as long as their respective cases are not discussed.
David is charged with Harboring or Aiding a Fugitive.
The judge in James’ case decided to hold off on ruling, as he wants to speak with the Judge in David’s case before coming to a decision.
James was arrested after 2-year-old Leo Escalante died while in his care.
He claimed the child fell down the stairs, but doctors have stated that the injuries do not match that story.
James is due back in court on April 23rd.
