Thursday’s icy storm left tens of thousands of households without power throughout Eastern Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Public Service reports that crews have restored power to more than 44,000 customers since yesterday morning, but as of this morning, nearly 22,000 customers are still without power.
WPS workers encountered significant damage, including broken utility poles, downed power lines, and trees that had fallen into electric equipment, with the Green Bay, Waukesha, and Stevens Point areas the most heavily affected.
All available crews have been called in to assist and have been working around the clock to restore power to those in the dark.
WPS is reminding customers to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed power line and to report all downed power lines to WPS or a local law enforcement agency immediately.
