Another of Senator Andre Jacque’s bills has been signed into law.
The New Franken legislator worked with Representative Rob Kriebich of New Richmond on a bipartisan bill to support victims and increase penalties for crimes committed against “adults at risk,” which was approved by Governor Tony Evers this week.
Act 149 extends the protections by allowing courts to freeze their assets if the victim is threatened with financial exploitation.
The law also now allows for greater prison time for those who victimize at-risk adults, increases the severity of certain sexual crimes, and allows adults at risk to remotely participate in court proceedings when seeking a restraining order.
Sen Jacque said of the passage, “Victimizing Wisconsin residents with mental or physical disadvantages must never be tolerated, and this new law strengthens protections for some of the most vulnerable in our society.”
This is the third of Sen. Jacque’s bills to be signed into law this week, including his first responder PTSD coverage bill and his clean water bill.
