ICE has detained a Muslim leader in Wisconsin.
Authorities arrested Islamic Society of Milwaukee President Salah Sarsour earlier this week.
The organization says he’s a legal permanent resident who has lived in the country for over three decades and has no criminal record.
Meanwhile, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement Thursday that Sarsour had been convicted of crimes in Israel before he came to the U.S. and allegedly lied on his green card application.
The department says Sarsour was found guilty of throwing Molotov cocktails at homes belonging to members of the Israeli armed forces.
Since arriving in the U.S., Sarsour has reportedly been involved in pro-Palestinian activism.
