A nationwide public health alert has been issued for products sold at Walmart.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced an alert for Great Value frozen dinosaur chicken nuggets due to possible contamination with lead.
The dino nuggets in question were sold in 29-ounce bags bearing a best if used by date of February 10th, 2027, and the establishment number P44164 printed on the bag.
The Great Value nuggets were shipped to and sold at Walmart locations nationwide, including Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties.
This possible lead contamination was discovered during routine surveillance sampling.
The FSIS has alerted the public that consumption of lead is “especially dangerous for pregnant women, infants, and young children because it can harm developing brains and nervous systems, sometimes causing lasting problems.”
They added, “There is no safe amount of lead exposure.”
A public health alert was issued rather than a full recall because the items are no longer available for purchase, however, the FSIS is concerned that consumers may have the products in their freezers.
Anyone in possession of the dino nuggets in question is urged to throw them out or return them to their place of purchase.
Product labels for the Great Value dino nuggets subject to this alert, as well as more information on the alert, can be found by visiting fsis.usda.gov.
