The Fox Crossing Police Department has concluded its investigation into an officer-involved shooting that killed a dog.
Officer Dominick Texiera responded to a report of a loose dog in Fritsch Park on March 7th and planned to capture the canine with a catchpole.
However, a rottweiler with a history of prior calls was seen actively attacking another dog and its owner on the walking trail.
Officer Texiera ended up shooting the dog to stop the attack. Over the previous year, officers were called for the dog being on the loose three times, and once issued a citation to the owner for owning a “vicious dog and failure to license.”
In that incident, the dog had attacked another canine and its 65-year-old owner, requiring hospitalization for both.
The Fox Crossing Police Department has concluded that during the March 7th incident, “the discharge of Officer Texiera’s firearm was justified and in compliance with both Wisconsin State Statute and department policy in this situation. The officer’s actions, although perceptually drastic to some, were taken to prevent serious injury to the person it appeared to be attacking as well as continued attacks on the other dog involved.”
