The Manitowoc Police Department is investigating the death of a man in Lake Michigan.
Officers were dispatched to the area of the Lighthouse along the Lake Michigan Shoreline just after 1:15 Sunday afternoon on a report of a missing person.
The preliminary facts of the case led investigators to believe the 20-year-old man had disappeared into the Lake.
The Department called the Coast Guard, the DNR, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, and the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department to aid in a search of the area where the man was last seen.
His body was located in Lake Michigan at 12:30 this afternoon, and the Manitowoc County Dive Team recovered the body.
While the investigation is still ongoing, Captain Cooper Schmidt notes that the preliminary investigation suggests no foul play and no threat to the community.
He also told SeehaferNews.com, “On behalf of the Manitowoc Police Department, we would like to thank all of our public safety partners who assisted in this investigation. We would also like to offer our deepest condolences to those affected by this incident.”
