A new Oconto County Circuit Court judge is the soon-to-be former District Attorney.
Governor Tony Evers announced his appointment of Hannah Schuchart to Branch 1 of the court, filling the vacancy being created by Judge Michael T. Judge’s retirement.
Evers explained that with her experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, along with well-established relationships in the community and a history of service, Schuchart will serve the county well.
The new judge previously served as the Oconto County District Attorney since 2022 and previously worked as an assistant district attorney in Brown County and as a state public defender in Oconto and Marinette Counties. Schuchart lives in Abrams, WI, and is a graduate of Purdue University and Michigan State University College of Law.
She called the appointment an honor, saying she’s worked hard to represent the interests of Oconto County by prosecuting criminal offenses.
When on the bench, she says she will “commit to all members of this community to exercise sound judgment and discharge my duties with integrity, trust, and transparency. My courtroom will be one where all are welcome, and where everyone is given a fair opportunity to be heard.”
Applicants are now being sought for the Oconto County District Attorney position. The next district attorney will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends in 2029.
