Two teens are in custody after pointing a weapon at a McDonald’s drive-thru employee.
The Fond du Lac Police Department was called to the McDonald’s located on East Johnson Street at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday (March 17th) for a weapons call.
Upon arrival, officers learned that two juveniles were in the restaurant prior to the incident, acting in a concerning manner.
They then went into the drive-thru and pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the employee before fleeing the scene.
Witnesses at McDonald’s were also able to identify the individuals involved as 16- and 17-year-old males from the City of Fond du Lac, while also sharing concerns over prior violent behavior and access to weapons.
At the same time, the suspects sent threatening messages to the victim. Authorities were then able to locate the suspect vehicle in the area of Portage and Butler Streets, and, with assistance of a Bear Cat armored rescue vehicle, a high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and both teens were arrested.
As the investigation continued, a search warrant was conducted at one of the teens’ residences where two realistic BB guns were recovered.
While the weapons were later discovered to be BB guns, the Fond du Lac Police Department noted, “The fear experienced by those involved, and the potential for a tragic outcome, is very real. The presence of a replica firearm does not lessen the seriousness of this incident.”
