The City of Sheboygan is inviting the public to share their thoughts on proposed changes to the zoning code.
This week, the Common Council chose to refer the updated zoning code to the Committee of the Whole in order to ensure that additional public input is received on the matter before it gets signed into law.
Over the past few months, city staff have been hard at work to update and modernize its zoning code, which has not been updated since 1996.
Regarding the changes, Sheboygan Planning and Development Director Taylor Zeinert said, “The update reflects modern development practices and incorporates feedback received from the community following an earlier review by the Plan Commission and a subsequent referral back to staff by the Mayor.”
At this week’s Common Council meeting, the group had the choice to refer the zoning code to the Plan Commission or the Committee of the Whole, however, they chose the Committee of the Whole “to provide an opportunity for broader community input, Q&A, and discussion before final consideration.”
The draft of the zoning code is available for viewing in the March 16th Common Council agenda.
The public is encouraged to attend the Committee of the Whole meeting, which will be held on Monday (March 28th) at 5:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers, to have their comments, questions, and concerns heard.
