A Ripon man has been convicted of attempting to murder his girlfriend with an axe.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric J. Toney announced that, yesterday (March 17th), 35-year-old Hayden Daffinson was convicted of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, First Degree Sexual Assault, and Mayhem, all carrying domestic violence enhancers.
This conviction comes after a plea deal was reached, which saw five of the eight felonies he faced dismissed, while the charges he was convicted of were lessened to not include “with the use of a dangerous weapon” modifiers.
On the night of the attack, Fond du Lac Police were called to the 300 block of East Merrill Avenue on a report of someone who had been attacked with an axe that was actively bleeding.
The victim, a 38-year-old woman and Daffinson’s girlfriend, was found inside the residence with severe lacerations to her head, neck, and limbs.
However, lifesaving measures were rendered at the scene before she was transported to a local hospital, and ultimately, she would survive the axe attack at the hands of the 35-year-old.
On the importance of the conviction, District Attorney Toney said, “Violence against women has no place in our society, and we will stand with survivors to fight for justice and protect women in our communities.”
Daffinson will return to court on June 29th to be sentenced, and he faces up to 105 years in prison.
