Firefighters in Green Bay not only had to battle the snow yesterday, they also were on the scene of a fire for over eight hours.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was called to Green Bay Converting, located at 2200 Larsen Road, at 7:45 a.m., where they found flames coming from the roof of one of the buildings. The Box Alarm was activated to request additional resources.
Over the ensuing 8+ hour battle, portions of the building collapsed due to the fire and water damage, while the historic snowfall adversely impacted emergency response and firefighting operations.
Fire crews were given time to rest, rotate out, and then return thanks to an on-site rehabilitation area.
The last update given just before 5:15 yesterday evening noted that “Firefighting efforts are expected to continue into the evening,” and that “Some local agencies have been cleared from the scene and are returning to their respective jurisdictions.”
A cause has not yet been determined.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was aided by teams from Howard, De Pere, Suamico, Wrightstown, Ledgeview, Hobart, Pulaski, Lawrence, and Denmark, while numerous other entities, including Kwik Trip and Subway, also aided at the scene.
