Despite the 2025-2026 legislative season coming to an end, a local State Assemblyman is still hard at work looking to lower costs for Wisconsinites.
26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan of Sheboygan has announced that he has cosponsored Assembly Bill 1153, which aims to expand the coverage of Badger Care.
AB-1153 would create a public option for Badger Care that all Wisconsin residents could opt into while also providing significantly lower costs than many private health insurance companies currently offer.
Likewise, the bill would also enable small business employers with fewer than 50 employees to offer coverage as well.
This legislation comes in response to the federal government not renewing the Affordable Care Act subsidies, leaving thousands across the country, including in Wisconsin, unable to afford health insurance after monthly premiums skyrocketed by 900% for some individuals.
On this bill, Rep. Sheehan finished by saying, “Overall, this is a commonsense bill that makes essential healthcare more affordable for Wisconsinites, and I am excited to advocate for it as it makes its way through the legislative process.”
