A civil lawsuit filed against a former Milwaukee police officer has been dismissed.
A federal judge made that move last week, and the family of Joel Acevedo will recover nothing.
Acevedo died in 2020 after allegedly being put into a chokehold by Officer Michael Mattioli, who was off-duty at the time, during a party at Mattioli’s home.
Mattioli was found not guilty by a jury in 2023, but Acevedo’s family later sued for damages.
The judge dismissed the lawsuit because Mattioli was acting as a private citizen at the time.
