
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department has given an update on a fire that claimed the lives of two people in Bellevue.
WBAY reports that the cause of the fire on March 1st was the improper disposal of smoking materials.
Fire crews were called to the home in the 100 block of Scarlet Lane at 8:30 a.m., where they learned that two people were trapped inside.
Crews arrived to find smoke billowing from the structure, and found that one of the two residents had already evacuated.
82-year-old Marie Bayne died at the scene, and 83-year-old Bruce Bayne died at a hospital on March 9th.
The fire also caused an estimated $300,000 in damage.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is reminding residents of the importance of making sure all smoking materials are completely extinguished and ensuring all of your smoke alarms are in full working order.
